River Forest, a 2.5 square mile village just west of Chicago is nestled in a Forest Preserve with the Des Plaines river running through it. Two universities, Dominican and Concordia, make their home in River Forest. With its beautiful homes, large back yards, and close proximity to downtown Chicago, this western suburb is a very attractive place to live.
Downtown Chicago is an easy 9 mile drive on I-290 (the Eisenhower expressway). Many residents choose to catch the Greenline on Chicago’s El, or the Metra’s Union Pacific/West line from the nearby Oak Park station. Both Midway and O’Hare airports are easily accessible from River Forest, IL.
The Oak Park and River Forest High School was ranked in the top 5% of high schools nationally by the US News and World Report. District 90, the public school district serving Kindergarten through 8th Grade students, has two elementary schools and one middles school. District 90 consistently wins state and national awards.
If you like Kool-Aid, Twinkies, Mars Bars, or Ferrara Pan candy, the founders and owners of these companies have all made their home in River Forest. It’s proximity to Thatcher Woods and the Des Plaines river provide opportunities to surround yourself with nature. River Forest may be a quiet, residential, community but it is neighbored by Oak Park and Forest Park’s restaurants, shops, and festivals.
